Purchased a Tray Top 15' Lathe

And, I think it was a mistake. This is my first dive into metal fabrication equipment after wanting a lathe for a number of years. I found this lathe on Ebay with an opening bid set at $499. I thought it wouldn't sell for that cheap, so I bid on it.
    Ebay Listing Photos:
Seven days later, I had this:
I get it home, and with a little help, get it unloaded and into the garage. I spent some time cleaning it up an partially reassembling it until I realize there's no crossfeed screw and no crossfeed nut. Crap.
Since I came to this understanding, I've been searching Craigslist and Ebay daily, looking for a parts machine or these parts to no avail. I tried contacting brian37776 about his 15' he posted about parting out a few months ago, but I haven't heard anything from him. I emailed CINMAC and received a quote of $3,725 for the screw and nut. I emailed Johnston Industrial Sales Co. and a helpful fellow by the name of Cliff replied to my email. He suggested getting an ACME screw and nut, 0.75'-10 and figuring out how to make it work.
I have a few questions about this solution before spending $150 on the wrong parts:
    1. Do any of you know what the diameter of screw these lathes use? Any issues using a 0.75' diameter?
    2. Regarding the pitch, the crossfeed dial indicates there's 0.200' of travel per rotation. In my mind, this means there's 5 rotations per inch. Do I need a 0.75'-10 screw and nut or 0.75'-5 screw and nut?
I've given myself a two month timeframe to find these parts before parting the machine out and selling the rest for scrap in hopes of recovering most of my money.
Thank you for your time and suggestions.

The dial reads diametrically while the screw moves radially, you'll want a LH 10 pitch screw.

I don’t know how handy you are but you could have it running for less than $50 and then turn some perfect parts running the lathe.

    Tuna,
I sent you a private message but not sure if it went through. Contact Randy in Anchorage, Alaska 907-250-3991. He has a Tray Top parts machine that he is getting ready to list on ebay. I saw the lathe when I bought his 2H Kearney & Trecker a couple months ago and noticed that the quick change gear box was missing but everything else seemed to be there. Good Luck.

I have a 15' tray top, I think its a bit newer than yours but should be *close* to the same if you need additional dimensions or anything let me know.
If you decide instead to part it out I'd be interested in the taper attachment, chuck backplates and a follow rest if you got one.

Have you contacted the guy you bought it from? Maybe he has it laying around and just forgot to give it to you.

I just bought a tray top lathe today at an auction. Not even listed by auctioneer. The size I am not sure of... looks like 15' to me. Sure seems to have a small diameter thru hole. It has a collet closer and a number of collets, the steady, 3 and 4 jaw chucks L-0 chucks.... it came with the taper but they broke it off moving it at some point- and didn't save the broken off part.
I bid against one scrapper.... the other was peering over my shoulder telling me that he'd let me have it if I wanted it. I have no place for it ( I don't think ). The first one gave up quick... I think it was so hot outside he didn't want to fool with it. It was about 102 in the shade here. The auctioneer finally gave up and let his son take over... I thought he was going to pass out from the heat.
This was at a salvage yard going out of business sale. I asked about the origins of the machine= was told it came from a mfg. here in town making room for a new machine, so this one had to go. Sold for scrap. Auctioneer missed seeing it so it didn't get listed so no one was looking for it. I just happen to spot it hidden under one of those old blue cheapo tarps with lots of stuff piled up on top of it. Did a little investigating, saw it was a lathe. Saw that 'tray' top and uncovered a bunch more of it so I could see the name on the front.
I was sure hoping someone else would outbid me, but no luck. Now.... I gotta get it out of there. Picked up all the loose parts and pieces and brought them home, but left the machine set with my name and bidder number spraypainted on it.
If worse come to worse I suppose I could make room for it against one wall of my garage. Sure don't have any room at the shop. Whip up a phase converter and have a home shop machine.
It has the 3 speed dial levers on the front..... Didn't have my glasses so don't know if it has numbers on the dial or anywhere else, for that matter.
Had read these discussions about the traytops, but forgot where to look for the identification number on the thing. Here in a day or so I will retrieve it and find them.
Also bought what used to be the box off of a big U-Haul truck. It's at least 15' long, but I didn't have a tape with me. Roll up door in the back, fiberglass sides, aluminum roof, good hard wood floor. One bad place in the floor up towards the front of the box- nothing serious. $500 for that. Quit bidding at $450, but some guy next to me was telling a guy next to him that 'that thing is in such good shape it's worth lots more than that... so I jumped back in and had it in a few more bids.

Just as a very small day-brightener, the lathe (as parts) and the lathe tooling can probably be sold for far more than you paid for the lathe.

I figured as much. There is already some desire for the machine. I posted some pictures on the general forum of all the stuff I won at the auction, but the post got removed in its entirety.

For the OP, you got a hell of a lot of lathe and extras for a little bit of money!!!
If the screw and clean up is the only problems you are doing well.
I have a 15 X 54 Cincy Hydrashift (a fancier version of the Tray Top) and it's a great machine.
They are not CNC's but they have made a lot of parts through the years!

I got the lathe home. It's '15x48', flame hardened bed... Still didn't notice the ID code anywhere yet. Still setting under a tarp on the trailer. Haven't got it cleaned off or anything. I've got so many irons in the fire it's about to put my fire out!!!
Here are some random pics of other stuff that I bought at the sale.

Found model number, which is 1W3F5B- 91. Did forum search to try and decipher that number, but couldn't find where someone had spelled out what all that stuff meant. I read it before, but can't find it again to save my soul!
Connected to power. Forward and reverse action operates fine.
Took traytop lid off. Bad news~ missing teeth on the smallest gear on the input shaft cluster, and on the middle gear on driven shaft.
The gears that those bad gears mate with are ok.
Cursory examination makes me wonder if there are individual gears on the 'driven' shaft that can be replaced individually.
Also wondered if possible a replacement gear could be made for the input shaft, bored out and pressed onto the shaft over an equally turned down hub where existing gear with missing tooth was on said shaft?
Did some cleaning on one of the 3 jaw chucks to find a name... 8' Buck.

Thanks for the photos and updates.
Based on this post: tray top cintilathe, you have a 1954 model.
Sorry to hear about the bad teeth.

If you know of a GOOD TIG welder I would look into repairing the damaged teeth. The gears should be steel which is very weldable.
There was a Traytop Manual posted on here IIRC, maybe you can find it. It will have the parts breakdown exploded view.

Finally getting stuff moved around, some things done around the shop and got back around to this lathe. Drug it back in the shop and unloaded it because we needed the trailer.
I have come to the conclusion that I will not do anything with this machine and will sell it.... accessories and all... Collet closer and collets, 3 chucks, chuck wrench, steady rest. 230 volt 3 phase. 15'x48'. As discussed in earlier comments, I found that there are 2 gears in the headstock that have a couple of teeth knocked off.
Will load on truck or trailer.... Located in Parsons Kansas. $600

JoeE, I don't have time to run and get it nor space for that machine but I'd be very interested in the collet closer and collets if you would consider selling them separately.
